My Medical Medium daily routine
I wanted to highlight what I do every day that helped me get off psych meds for good, and what's prevented me from having to take an antibiotic in over two years.
To give you context, I used to take an antibiotic at least once a month for years. I had all kinds of infections - strep, sinus, ear, bronchitis, pneunomia, UTI, yeast, etc.
I was also on psych meds (ativan, seroquel, celexa, cymbalta, rumeron being the main ones) for 10 years to treat severe anxiety disorders.
I haven't had to take an antibiotic since starting the Medical Medium protocol in January of 2016. AND in 7 days, at the time I'm writing this, I will be 10 months clean of all pharmaceuticals!!
When I first started the protocol over two years ago, I wanted to heal so bad that I went to my local health food store and bought all the supplements without fully understanding why I was taking them, and I got so overwhelmed with everything I had to eat, I would feel like giving up and going out to eat crepes (given, I was living in Montreal at the time so it was normal to just go out and eat buttery crepes). Since then, I've found a routine that really works for me. Allow me to clue you in on that exact daily routine and why I do the things that I do. Just a disclaimer that this is MY daily routine that works for me after some trial and error. Check with your health practitioner before implementing new protocols into your life.
STEP 1 + 2: When I wake up, I have my lemon honey water and I take my b12 and my zinc supplements
HOW AND WHY:
I take my lemon honey water that I have prepared the night before that sits on my nightstand as I sit up following slumber. I take some time to stretch, breathe and curve that early morning thirst. Way better for you than immediately reaching for your phone. I also keep the little bottles of supps on my window sill, so I can grab them and take them before I go downstairs to my kitchen. I take b12 and zinc for my nervous system. When I talked to Anthony on December 24th 2015, he told me I had a severe zinc deficiency. I looked at my nails and I had absolutely no half moons except for my thumbs at the time. Since supplementing with zinc for 2 years, my half moons have come back on my index and middle fingers. Actually, they may have appeared for the first time. I don't remember if I ever had them as a child or teen. I am still waiting for the ring finger and the pinky to come forward with their healing. Patience and consistency is key. b12 and zinc are very good for the central nervous system and isn't in our food supply much - unless you are growing your own food and not washing it. I supplement them for this reason. I take 2 dropper fulls of each, but not at the same time. I wait a minute or two between taking each.
Once, I get to the kitchen, I pour another 32oz of water from my Berkey filter into a mason jar. At first, the Berkey filter seems super expensive. I didn't get one until last November. I always got spring water from bottles. Usually it ended up being plastic bottles, which wasn't great because the toxins of the plastic gets into the water supply too. But since it was better than tap water, I stuck with it. Now, I am seeing that the investment in the Berkey is great because I never spend money on big water jugs anymore and all I have to do is pour water from my tap into it.
I squeeze the lemon and add the honey to the water to help cleanse my liver from working hard at clearing debris. Honey has so many viral fighting proprieties as does the lemon. I drink this second 32 oz of water throughout the day.
TIME CONSUMED: 15 minutes.
STEP 3: Let 30-40 minutes pass
HOW AND WHY: At this point, I go make my bed, brush and floss my teeth and water my plants until I get my juicer all set up and start juicing 16 oz of celery juice. I wait about half an hour between the water and the juice so my tummy is relatively empty when I bring in the cel juice.
TIME CONSUMED: 30-40 minutes.
STEP 4: Celery juice
HOW AND WHY: The benefits of celery juice seem endless. But for me right now, celery helps break down and clear out both EBV and the strep bacteria in my system. It builds up my hydrochloric acid so my digestion game stays strong AND it helps repair my brain from burnt out neurotransmitters.
I don't particularly like the taste of celery juice if I'm being honest, but I have gotten used to it and see it as refreshing now. Here's how I make it somewhat enjoyable... ;)
To make sure I don't skip out on this critical part of healing every day, I buy a ton of celery at the store ahead of time, clean it and place it in big glass containers to keep in the fridge, so when I am ready to juice, it's all there for me. PLUS, it's a little bit cold from being stored in the fridge...which makes the experience of celery juice way better. Honestly, warm celery juice is not what I prefer in life.
TIME CONSUMED: 10 minutes.
STEP 5: Apple juice and supplements
HOW AND WHY: After I am done drinking my celery juice, I start to juice apples to take my liposomal C supplement with. I also take my licorice root and goldenseal supplement with AJ as well.
This is a hack I've created for myself and I got the inspo from my friend Melody. Apple juice is very detoxing by itself, so just a fair warning if you are using it with supplements as well. Sometimes, I do have to lay down because I get big detox reaction on the right side of my jaw, neck and shoulder. I suspect that is where either EBV or shingles hangs out for me. Rest assured, the detox sensation does pass within 20 minutes, and when it does, I feel so much better.
Here is a list of the supplements I take and how much I take (other than my initial b12 and zinc) and a brief overview on why I do take these right now.
Liposomal C by liponaturals - Getting rid of strep and of EBV. I take 2 tbs a day.
Licorice root by nature's answer - Getting rid of strep and EBV and healing my adrenals and liver. I take 2 droppers full a day, and pulse this one 3 weeks on 1 week off.
Goldenseal by nature's answer - Nature's antibiotic. Goodbye strep and EBV. I take 2 droppers a day and pulse this one 2 weeks on, 2 weeks on in sync with my period. (Weeks on are week 2 and 3 of cycle, whereas week 4 and 1 I take off. So when I am pms'ing and bleeding, I skip the golden seal.)
L-Lyseine by pure encapsulations - Amazing for getting viruses OUT. I take 3 caps a day.
MonoLaurin by health from the sun - Gets strep out. I take 3 caps a day.
Magnesium (Neuro-mag) by life extension - Stellar for the neurological system. I take 3 caps a day.
B-complex by pure encapsulations - More nervous system support. 1 cap a day.
Vitamin D3 by pure encapsulations - Support for the winter months living in Canada. I take 3000-5000 IUD's a day.
Cat's claw by nature's answer - I take cat's claw at night because this is when its effects are more powerful. It's a nature's antibiotic just like goldenseal. 2 droppers here too.
If I had any advice to give about supplements is to take them daily. What tends to happen is that we'll take them for a couple days and then forget about them for a week, and then get back on the supplement train again for a week and drop off once more. For a positive life-changing impact (and to avoid wasting money on supplement bottles), make it a point to take your supplements every day no matter what!
TIME CONSUMED: 30 minutes.
STEP 6: Apple, cucumber, celery, ginger, turmeric juice
HOW AND WHY: I bring in a small cup of this delicious anti-inflamatory mixture, as I go take some time to cuddle up with a blanket and read a bit, do light yoga, rebound, pray to the angels, and journal. I use the healing journal by my friends healing roots collective - find them on insta and buy their journal... so worth it!!
Time consumed: 45 minutes.
STEP 7: Shower/ bath + adorning self for day
HOW AND WHY:
I am SUPERBLY into baths right now. I love to use healing oils, detoxifying salts and skin potions to adorn myself.
I find that getting ready for the day even if I work from home is super helpful because it helps me feel 1) beautiful and confident but also, 2) it helps me differentiate work time and chill time.
TIME CONSUMED: 45 minutes.
STEP 8: Heavy metal detox smoothie + orange juice + adrenal snack
HOW AND WHY: After I am ready for the day, I head back to the kitchen to juice some orange juice to put in the fridge for later, and I make some to add to my heavy metal detox smoothie that I will drink right away.
I also prepare a little adrenal snack consisting of apple, celery and dates to eat later on while I am working.
TIME CONSUMED: 30 minutes.
STEP 9: Clean up + load dishwasher + start dishwasher
HOW AND WHY: After the smoothie and ALL the juices have been made, I clean up, load my dishwasher, start it and head to my office. If I don't keep up with the cleaning, it piles up, and I get unhappy and overwhelmed.
TIME CONSUMED: 20 minutes.
This concludes my morning routine. This is usually when I turn my phone back on from being on airplane mode since the night before. I kid you not that healing your body from the inside out can feel and look like a full time job. I spend a little over 4 hours in the morning making juices, smoothies, and feeding my body supplements while getting myself and my house ready for the day ahead. But it's worth it. If you have a job you have to be in where you can't decide when you start work, there are still ways to incoporate these healing routines in your morning. We would just have to engineer it in a way that works for your lifestyle, no matter what it's like.
STEP 10: Work
HOW AND WHY: It's usually about 12/1 pm when I get to work. If I have client calls that day, I will head to my home office and take my calls.
If I don't work with clients on any day, this is when I book in my own healing appointments with my therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, or I go take a yoga class. I also get outside of the home to a co-working space or a juicery to get stuff done.
During this time I snack on my apples, celery and dates as well as my orange juice. I try to eat every 90 minutes to recover from adrenal and neurological fatigue. It truly helps.
TIME CONSUMED: 3 hours.
STEP 11: Late lunch
HOW AND WHY: If I've been out, I come back home for lunch. If I've been cooped up in my office, I activate my bluetooth speaker and dance around as I make a large 32 oz smoothie with a TON of spinach and fruit, notably dates.
I will also eat some oranges and cucumbers as a lunch snack (glucose and sodium), and have some banana and garlic (potassium and anti-viral). I know it sounds gross, but this is how I get my raw garlic in every day to knock down strep forever!!
My lunch is pretty much snacking. I get another adrenal snack ready worthy of romaine lettuce, banana and dates to take with me to finish my work day.
TIME CONSUMED: 1 hour.
STEP 12: Work
HOW AND WHY: This is where I will get back to work again. See clients for evening time sessions. Do admin stuff. Create content. 'Cause mama gots to make the cash mulla.
Time consumed: 2 hours.
STEP 13: Dinner
Usually around 7 pm each day, I am done work. After that comes one of my favorite parts of the day, DINNER TIME. I love to have friends and family over for dinner, so a lot of days during the week and weekend, that's what I will do with my evenings.
If I'm on my own, I blast music, have fun, probably Instagram story what I'm making, and I'll sometimes watch a movie or listen to a podcast while I eat.
For dinner, I always like to make a delicious warming recipe, especially during the winter months, as I eat mostly raw during the day. It always involves potatoes or a squash of some kind.
Here are my favorite medical medium recipes that I make for dinner:
Aloo Matar: http://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/aloo-matar
Spaghetti squash bolognese: http://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/spaghetti-squash-bolognese
Nachos potatoes: http://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/nachos-potatoes
Coconut curry: http://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/coconut-curry
I really love the guac and sweet potato chips recipe from the thyroid healing book. That's a fan favorite here in my house.
It's really important to me to enjoy either the company of my loved ones or my own before I clean and make the space be spiffy before I start my sleep routine.
TIME CONSUMED: 2-3 hours.
STEP 14: Sleep routine activated
HOW AND WHY: My sleep routine consists of another bathing experience usually. Before I hop in, I set up my diffuser with lavender or peppermint. Additionally, I light candles and get the book I want to read ready, or the show I want to watch ready. I get a snack of mango, bananas, cherries, and raw honey, ready for when I start my entertainment. I also do the basic human stuff such as brush my teeth, turn the lights off to save power during the night. I say goodnight to all my people and tell them I love them, and then I turn my phone on airplane mode before getting into bed. :)
Sleep for me has always been challenging, so setting the right kind of atmosphere, one I enjoy being in and feel safe in, helps tons.
I take my night time supplements which include...
- PHARMA GABBA by Throne Research. This is the most expensive supplement I take, but so worth it for someone recovering from benzo damage. FYI gabba is the neurotransmitter that your body stops producing on its own after you've taken benzo - this is why withdrawal is so painful. Without gabba, the body has a hard time coming down from hyper arousal and relaxing physically. It's actually nearly impossible, which again, is why withdrawal is so painful.
- Melatonin by pure encapsulations. The 20mg one. I usually take 1-2 depending on how NOT TIRED I feel! I dream of being those people who can take 3mg of melatonin and sleep for 12 hours. Ha!
- Gaia herbs such as sleep thru.
- CBD oil. I microdose cbd oil three times during the evening, first when I start making dinner, when I'm cleaning up from dinner and then once more after my bath before I start my wind down entertainment.
TIME CONSUMED: 2 hours and I'm asleep a little before midnight usually. (Hopefully ;))
Annnnnnd there you have it- a complete summary of my ideal normal day here on the East Coast where I see clients internationally. That's a large part of why my work hours allow me to start later in the day and see clients up until the evening, and why I've structured my days like this. Keep in mind that I work mostly from home, and I am single right now without any dependents, so I can basically do what I want all the time. If you have more on your plate, such as kids to take care of, all of this is still possible. Just got to structure it a bit differently. We're all in this together, but perhaps in different seasons of life.
If you find anything about this helpful, let me know! Or if you have any more questions, as always, slide in my DMs.
